Multi-Vehicle Crash with Semi-Truck in Oklahoma Leaves Two Injured

Truck4

At least two people suffered injury as a result of a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-trailer this past month on Interstate 44 in northwest Oklahoma City. The crash occurred on I-44 near Northwest 36th Street causing a significant backup of traffic in the metro area. A traffic helicopter showed that several lanes of traffic were closed at various points while crews worked to clear the scene.

One of the vehicles involved in the crash had significant damage to both its front and back ends. The semi-trailer was also damaged.

The crash was listed as an injury collision, and Oklahoma City Fire Department officials are working to determine how many people were hurt in the accident. The traffic helicopter noted that two individuals were placed into ambulances.

Fire Department officials said that possibly six vehicles were involved, but they’re still assessing the situation. At least five vehicles were damaged at the scene.

At present, it’s unclear how the accident happened or who was at fault for the accident.

Truck accident lawsuits in Oklahoma

When a truck driver is at fault for an accident, the company that employed the truck driver is liable for damages to anyone who is injured in the crash. Very often, truck accidents involve serious personal injury to commuters. One of the primary reasons that truck accidents occur is that the driver is not paying attention to the road.

Truck accidents regularly occur in slowed or stopped traffic. 18-wheelers cannot stop on a dime like regular commuter vehicles. Instead, they roll to a stop. The driver must be able to anticipate the full stop in time or else they can cause a rear-end collision. Such collisions are often accompanied by serious personal injury or even death. When a large semi-truck strikes a much smaller commuter vehicle, the chances of the driver of the smaller vehicle being seriously injured are extremely high.

In other cases, trucks can make unsafe lane changes in which they strike another driver with the side of their truck. Trucking companies and their insurers are often liable for these accidents because the truck driver failed to ensure the lane was clear before they decided to change lanes.

Truck accidents are more dangerous than regular accidents

Around 5,000 people die each year in truck accidents. In 2023, 5,078 people died in accidents involving commercial trucks. Such accidents are generally preventable. In many cases, the truck driver is to blame for the accident that leads to fatality. When that happens, the driver and the company that employed the driver can be sued by the victim’s family. Such lawsuits hold the trucking industry accountable for hiring bad drivers, not vetting their drivers, and violating federal regulations.
